A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) arrived at Earth during the UTC morning of 01 Jun and, combined with ongoing strong solar winds, saw a significant enhancement in geomagnetic activity. Arriving during northern UTC daylight hours however means any viewings in the UK are unlikely at first. Geomagnetic activity is expected to continue on into the UTC evening and overnight, with aurora sightings possible down to central parts of the UK and similar latitudes, dependent on the ongoing activity maintaining its strength. Geomagnetic activity is then expected to decline by 03 Jun.
A transient ridge of high pressure will bring a weather window with sunshine and patchy cloud mostly above tops, but banks will persist on upper slopes hills west Highlands with a few drizzly showers.
